our new rug

Technically, we've owned this baby for awhile. But I realize I haven't blogged in a LONG time about our home improvements, updates, etc. The longer we work on our home, the longer I realized (1) how indecisive I am, (2) how cheap I am, and (3) how I don't know exactly what I want. I really know I want our room to have a certain feel and look to this for inspiration, but it's difficult for me to know how to exactly achieve that. And then mix in a husband who has actual decorating opinions and I think you'll see why I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. All that to say, we. bought. a. rug. Here she is...

Martha Stewart Chrysanthemum Rug

Before the rug. Love those beautiful floors and our new Starbucks chairs that T$ changed up a little.

Arrived in the mail.

Here she is. The colors are funny. Oh well.

How do you guys decorate? Is it difficult or does it come naturally?

weekly gratitude

I've rediscovered the joy of photography this week (thanks to camping).

I spent the day with this little man yesterday. Enough said.

how to...make a berry crisp while camping

Pretty much as soon as we arrived to Lake Kachess, our camp host told us about all the kinds of berries there were to be picked around camp. My kindred spirit and I quickly picked a plastic bag full of wild blackberries and red and black huckleberries. They were so good! And we decided to attempt to make a berry crisp.
For the topping: bisquick, butter, oats, and brown sugar. Mixed until crumbly.

For the filling: Berries (freshly picked), oats, and brown sugar. Mixed until we thought it looked good.

Cooking container: Dutch oven.  Pour in the berry mixture.

Kindred spirit in the kitchen.

Sprinkle on the topping. Yes, I'm wearing Crocs. They're AWESOME for camping.

Put the lid on the Dutch Oven. Place it in the coals and heap some coals on top. Check for doneness from time to time.

The finished product. So delicious! And all cooked under the stars.

home again.

Twenty-one mosquito bites and 48 hours later, T$ and I are home again from having spent a wonderful, relaxing, picturesque weekend away with my favorite kindredest of spirits and her Mr. W.  I have some things to share later as far as cooking on a campfire goes (we feasted like royalty this weekend thanks to Mr. W's kitchen/camping tools), but for now here are just a few photos...

With my k.s. - Lake Kachess behind us.

Photographer: Hagens?

T$: That's us.

Photographer: And you must be his daughter?

Me: No. I'm his wife.

Photographer: (Chuckling) Oh, I'm sure you get that a lot.

Me: No. I never have.

a full weekend

So, first thing's first, I can finally say in public that my kindred spirit is ENGAGED to her love! . Her future husband designed her ring on CAD and it is BEAUTIFUL. Their engagement story is even more romantic & beautiful. Way to go Mr. W!

And tonight (after nine long days) I finally get to be reunited with this face...

Until tonight I am creating a lesson plan in my parent's backyard with a puppy they're watching (Oakley) and brother Daniel keeping me company. All in all, an excellent Saturday & Sunday. Thank you Jesus for weekends.
