update - kid's bathroom

When I look back at pictures of the upstairs bathroom the night we gained ownership, I still can't believe how far it's come. The bathroom was a complete gut job: the toilet, window, tub, vanity  and sink, flooring, floral valance(?!?!) - everything had to go. There was mold, smears of dried up toothpaste, and even a random toothbrush left behind for us.

I loved the update to the bathroom even when it simply meant EVERYTHING was taken out and taken to the dump. What I didn't know (and am still learning) is how quickly the demo goes and how slowly the rebuild can take.

By the time September rolled around, I was getting antsy to move into the house and to spend time as a family.  For whatever reason, it seemed romantic to rough it in our new home together side-by-side even if that meant there was no place to bathe (besides the kitchen sink)!

The Wheaton's, the YMCA, and both sets of parents were all generous enough to let us shower in their homes for the next couple months. I would often bring a bag of clothes/toiletries to family dinner assuming Mammo would not deny me a hot shower after dinner (she never did).

And in the end, we survived my crazy idea and now have a beautiful, working shower.

As of today, the "kid's bathroom" is our family's primary bathroom. I know it will feel like a luxury when our master bathroom is one day complete (I can currently hear "Jake the Plumber" working on plumbing the master bath now). For now I am very thankful for a working bathroom that is not up the street at my friend's home even though it was a great excuse to see each other almost every day.
