Our kitchen has come a long way from the day we were
handed the keys in June 2014.
After the
demo and
floors were refinished, it was time to put our ideas into action.
T$ and I dreamed up the space using (get this)
Ikea's Planning Tools. It worked great for us as we were literally starting with a blank canvas.

At the end of the design process, Ikea provides you with a cut list of everything you'll need to fill your room. However, instead of going the Ikea route, we took the cut list over to
Barker Cabinets. We ended up at Barker Cabinets because of the cost and quality. They required a bit more elbow grease than hiring out the work, but it was not anything we couldn't handle. And by "we" I mean T$.

Along with assembly, the cabinets and drawer fronts come unfinished. Thankfully, T$ was able to use his workplace during the week they were closed over the winter holidays to use the spray booth to paint them. However, this also meant that from about September to January we lived without cabinet and drawer fronts. By the time the fronts went up in January, it took a few days for T$ and I to get used to the fact we had to open drawers or cabinets to see what they contained. Don't worry - we are fully used to it now and would definitely not go back.
For the countertops, we decided on quartz because a scorch proof material was important to me and we both liked the uniform color as opposed to what you might find in granite.

The only thing missing from our kitchen (for now) is a white subway tile backsplash behind the stove and a range hood. Those will come in time, but I figured it was simply time to post the progress on our kitchen...

And there you have it! Our fully-functioning, appliance filled, white cabinet and quartz countertopped kitchen! And 90 percent of the time, it is never this neat and tidy.
