the plate i want to hang on the WALL

T$ thinks his wife has gone crazy! But our kitchen is green and I saw this plate in a Crate & Barrel e-mail and knew it belonged on a wall of our cheerful cookery.  He doesn't understand why a plate goes on the wall. I can't say I fully understand either, but for some reason I like the idea. And at $7? We could fit that into the budget.

Tonight with my mama, I made the purchase. Now, I just have to find those things that help plates stick to walls & find a good place to stick it.

A couple weekends ago, Jena, Emily, and I decided it was time to join the ranks of womanhood and attend AMCC's "every-other-annual" woman's retreat. More than anything else, I think I was blessed by being in the company of wise women who love Christ, but more specifically by being in Carol Hopson's presence - our speaker for the weekend.  As she simply preached the Word and used examples of her testimony and life I felt myself drawn to her and my need to truly love the Word as she so clearly does. Being there reminded me of how crappy life can be sometimes, but was also reminded that God never wastes our trials. He always uses them. Always for His glory. That alone fills me with peace.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. welcome to the land of home renovation...

Last night we PAINTED our new place. The Hagens' clan are a rare breed...let me tell you. I grew up with white walls and not a lot of fixing up, but the Hagens' are a whole different story. I head to the house after Zumba with a Subway sandwich and some ice cream (we earned it) for the workers to find that the whole deep red kitchen had been primed and the orange/yellow entryway was gone! They just get.to.work! I felt like there wasn't a whole lot left to do except try out our shade of yellow in the living room. Thankfully, I had some help in Jena & Emily (my usual Tuesday bible study ladies), but even then I felt like we mostly talked about how much we loved Zumba and gave each other back massages with the rollers.

I am also SOOOO hesitant in choosing paint. I know it's not permanent but still feels so final. Like a tattoo. For now, the living room will be yellow. The kitchen a shade of green not unlike our wedding green.  Here's where I've been finding some inspiration...

1. When I woke up this morning, I found a sandwich waiting for me.
2. Because of him, my NCAA bracket is in a 4-way tie for 1st at work!!! 
3. He wears many hats in this world & at his 26th b-day party we got to celebrate that fact. .

memory & npr

I don't know what this says about me, BUT...driving home from another refreshing evening of dancercize & bible study with my ladies I have my radio tuned into NPR. Story hour? I think. Anyway, the weird part is I INSTANTLY recognized the voice of the female storyteller. She's Maria on Sesame Street! I haven't seen that show in YEARS. I'm talking learning to read, tiny Heidi, begging my mom to watch my favorite show. By the time I got home I found myself still fascinated by her voice & her story & wondering if my theory's correct. I looked her up on the always handy internet and found that Maria (aka Sonia Manzano) is the same woman I was listening to on the radio! I love the mystery of how our brains work & all of the outside influences that trigger our long-lost memories.

hello, my name is heidi and i'm a homeowner.

After 7 months of trying to PATIENTLY wait for our new little townhouse we finally heard the good word on Friday! It is now officially ours to keep & live & decorate & love! Now begins T$'s favorite process of getting to work on tearing the place up & my budding love of interior decorating. On Saturday (after a long, busy and partially fun day thanks to T$'s uncle's 60th birthday bash) we packed an overnight bag and headed to the new place to claim it ours. I tried my best to get rid of any lingering germs from the last owners with a disinfectant wipe to every knob, handle, countertop. Who knew I was such a germ-o-phobe? We brought toilet paper & soap for the bathrooms. Last but not least, I vacuumed our sleeping area in the living room and we were set for our 1st night of sleep.

We slept as soundly as one can on the floor and celebrated the next day by eating at 5 Guy's (you can WALK to it from our place)after church. I'm a happy homeowner. That's for sure.

Sunday, we headed to Costco and made our first official new home purchase: a vaccum cleaner! I've never owned my own before and I'm pretty excited to try it out. Um, yes. I just said that. And I mean it. :)
